The Serinyà caves are a key location where man settled more than 200,000 years ago. This site shows us how human beings lived and what customs they had in prehistoric times.
This site is one of the most important in Europe and documents the passage of Neanderthal man to Homo sapiens. We can see how they lived and what our most direct ancestors, before Neanderthal times (100,000 to 40,000 years ago), used to do.
Three caves can be visited in the park. The oldest is the Mollet cave, where a tooth from the Middle Paleolithic period was found, the oldest human remains discovered in the country.
The Cova de l'Arbreda shows the transition between the Middle and Upper Paleolithic period during the last glaciation. And the third cave, Reclau Viver, is the most well preserved of the three and concealed a necklace of seashells, which is now in the Banyoles Archaeological Museum.
The park is open to the public. Opening hours vary depending on the time of year.
