Parc Natural del Delta de l'Ebre

Natural parks, Area of interest for bird-watchers
The Ebro Delta is one of the best bird watching areas in Europe. As one of the Western Mediterranean's main wetland areas, it plays host to a large biological diversity due to the convergence of marine, river and underground waters.

The Ebro Delta Natural Park plays host to perfect services and facilities for getting to know the significant bird life, both in terms of quantity as well as the diversity of birds found there.

This large 124 square mile delta plain, where the Ebro river branches out and leads into the sea, is one of Catalonia's most important wetland areas and one of the essential areas in the Mediterranean. The Delta's completely flat landscape, with the stunning Els Ports mountains in the backdrop, is a powerful sight. The interior harbours extensive rice fields, whose appearance will change according to the season (earthy in winter, flooded in spring and green in summer).

The area close to the sea is comprised of large lagoons and marshes, dunes and sand, with small remains of riverside forests by the banks of the river. Due to its naturalistic and ornithological character, the Ebro Delta is internationally known. Here we find, for example, the world's largest Audouin's gull breeding colony, one of the essential concentrations of common reed bunting, from the Mediterranean sub-species Witherbyi, and the Iberian Peninsula's second largest colony of flamingos and glossy ibis.
