Economic activity

The municipality’s traditional activity used to be forest logging (cork). However, Palamós is one of the primary fishing ports of Catalonia; the catches of shellfish and its famous prawn are renowned. The primary industrial activities are still small industries such as cork and the chemical, metallurgy and construction sectors. The town’s tourist development, with the proliferation of second homes and hotels, has made the services sector the main driver of the municipality’s economy, employing over 60% of the working population.
