The town of Prades is a collection of places full of charm and beauty, a real piece of history with several outstanding features.
The edge of the town has several sections of the medieval wall, conserving remnants of what was the old castle. The wall (12th century), with the typical red stone that gives the town its nickname of the Red Village, has two Romanesque gateways with voussoired arches. Attached to the wall is a quadrangular defence tower, from the same period.
Inside the town, the porched Plaza Major Square contains the church of Santa Maria la Major, of regular ashlars, also red, and Gothic in style, with a single nave and an ogival vault. The façade is Renaissance, with an arched door preceded by an atrium.
Immediately in front of the church is the emblematic spherical fountain, also Renaissance, which hides a curious secret: each July it spouts cava sparkling wine instead of water. It is certainly one of the most popular places to meet in the town.
