When we talk about winter, snow is often the main protagonist. Catalonia offers snowy landscapes that will make you fall in love: from the ski slopes of Cerdanya, Val d'Aran or Pallars Sobirà to the white landscapes offered by the Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici National Park. Skiers, snowboarders and snowshoe lovers find their little winter paradise in these places. But winter in Catalonia is much more than snow and mountains. Towns and cities dress up to celebrate the most deeply rooted traditions. Christmas, with markets such as Santa Llúcia, living nativity scenes or the Cavalcades de Reis, are a very important festive times in the territory. Without a doubt, the winter festivals invite you to immerse yourself in Catalan popular culture, where every corner hides a story. The temperate and stable climate of the rest of the territory makes it an ideal time to enjoy the Catalan landscapes and discover small towns in the interior or on the coast. Walking along the Costa Brava or the Costa Daurada or discovering the leafless forests of inland Catalonia will allow you to enjoy the outdoors. We cannot ignore the cultural offer: winter is a good time to take refuge in museums, theaters or concert halls. The typical gastronomy during this time should not be left unsaid. Some dishes are linked to the holidays, such as the Christmas escudella (a traditional Catalan and Valencian meat and vegetable soup) or the three kings cake. In the Pyrenees, it is the ideal time to enjoy the trinxat de la Cerdanya, a dish made with cabbage, potato and bacon, while in the Tarragona area, from January, it is the season for another of Catalonia's most typical products, the so-called calçots. Experience a unique winter in Catalonia!
