El Serrallo, the seafaring soul of Tarragona The neighborhood of El Serrallo shows off the seafaring roots of Tarragona. A little world located in the city’s port, where you can breathe in the scent of the sea. Here is authenticity, where you can see how the fishermen mend and re-sew their nets while catching up or enjoy the sea views from the Banya lighthouse, at the end of the Llevant dike. The Fishermen's Guild of Tarragona organises guided tours to see how the boats arrive loaded with their catch and witness the fish auction. Another way to get to know El Serrallo is to get on board a golondrina and enjoy the view of its sea front, docks and breakwaters. Visit the Port Museum, where you can learn about its history and learn how it works. Enter the Observatori Blau, a multi-sensory, multimedia museum space that displays the species that are caught on the Costa Daurada, the fishing arts used in the area, and the history of the neighbourhood. You cannot leave this seafaring district without enjoying the city's typical dish in the restaurants: romesco de peix, which combines the well-known sauce with seafood or fish, and also suquet de seitó, a simple dish that fishermen used to prepare in their boats while at sea. Cambrils, the gastronomic capital of the Costa Daurada The flair of good seafood cuisine is one of the most popular claims of Cambrils. The town is considered the gastronomic capital of the Costa Daurada due to the high quality of the raw materials, such as fresh fish straight from the auction block and locally-grown vegetables. Throughout the year, the town celebrates several food festivals, in honour of squid, artichokes and galeras, a type of mantis shrimp. Two of the protagonists of its seafood cuisine are fideus rossos and suquet de peix. Cambrils still maintains two historic sites from its past: the Roman villa of La Llosa, located very close to the Passeig Marítim, and the medieval defence tower of L'Ermita, used to defend against pirate attacks. Both welcome visitors. This fishing village has a total of nine beaches to enjoy the seaside and doing water sports, such as catamaran and sailboat excursions, scuba diving or kayaking trips. The Passeig Marítim is the perfect esplanade for enjoying the scenic Cambrils coast, either on foot or by bike. Take a walk through the fishing towns of the Costa Daurada.
