The Ametlla de Mar is one of the small maritime jewels of the Terres de l'Ebre, very close to the Ebro Delta. Fishing and water sports are two of its main attractions. This Vila Marinera is a sports tourism destination and many activities and outings related to sailing and diving are organised there. The reason is very simple: its 16 km of coastline full of virgin beaches and quiet coves such as those of Calafató, Lo Ribellet and Vidre. If you immerse yourself in its crystalline waters you discover a universe sea of underwater posidonia meadows and even treasure. These are the remains of ships sunk in the First World War in the depths of the Gulf of Sant Jordi. You can also try a unique experience: swim among giant tuna and feed them during the summer, an outing organised by several companies in the area. In a town with three ports, one municipal and two private ones, Calafat and Marina Sant Jordi, the fishing tradition is the protagonist. The fish market and the Fishing Interpretation Center are two spaces where you can understand the maritime and fishing reality of Ametlla. Enjoying seafood dishes is another way to get inside in the tradition of L'Ametlla de Mar. Gastronomic days are held throughout the year, such as those for bluefin tuna or rossejat, always cooked with Delta rice. Discover the coast of the town by getting closer in Sant Jordi d'Alfama Castle, very close to the beach. This 1201 fortress was created to defend against piracy. Also on Estany beach there are bunkers and anti-aircraft shelters built during the Spanish Civil War, fortifications that demonstrate that Ametlla de Mar has been a strategic defense enclave over the years.
