In the Terres de Lleida, on top of a hill with views of the Serra del Montsec, is the Enchanting village of Montsonís. This nucleus, which belongs to the municipality of Foradada, was an important enclave in the Middle Ages, as it was border land with the Arab world. It is crowned by a castle, built in the 15th century, still inhabited and in use, which is the residence of the Baron de l'Albi. Pilgrims on the St James Way arrived in this town and slept in the castle, in the so-called pilgrim's room. According to them, they were locked up at night so they couldn't walk around the castle. To learn about this story and many others, sign up for one of the dramatized routes and enjoy several workshops such as medieval cooking and juggling that are organised there. To visit another place in the town, the viewpoint of Sant Urbà, located next to the church with the same name, you will have to walk a bit. It's worth it for the views it offers of the Serra del Montsec. Not far away is the sanctuary of Santa Maria de Salgar. This 12th century Romanesque monastery is located in a spectacular gorge of the Segre river. Walking through the town you come across La Botiga de Montsonís, a meeting point that is a shop, information point and restaurant at the same time. Dishes such as spinach cannelloni – a grandmother's recipe – or homemade meatballs are cooked here. And if you want to take a gastronomic souvenir of the town with you, you have plenty to choose from: mushrooms, oils, DO Costers del Segre wines, etc. Montsonís is a Starlight Tourist Destination for the great quality of its night sky, without light pollution. If you want to enjoy the stars, book a night of guided observation organized by Montsonís Castle. Another unique proposal is to follow the Land Art-Art Natura route. A tour in the middle of nature where you will find a series of works inspired by nature that integrate perfectly into the environment. A very artistic and interesting hiking route that can be done with kids.
