From the icy silence of winter pruning to the aromatic effervescence of the autumn harvest, the Catalan countryside reveals itself dynamically, laying bare the human effort behind every bottle. Do you want to know the best time to visit our wineries? Begin this seasonal journey and discover the four seasons of the vineyard. Spring: Awakening and bud break Spring is the season of awakening and mystical rebirth on the wine routes of Catalonia. After a long rest during the cold months, the vines produce their first green shoots (the weeping of the vine), painting the fields a fresh green of surprising luminosity. It is a time of very intense work in the fields, where the tasks of green pruning and soil preparation are carried out. Those who visit the wineries during this season can take part in educational workshops on traditional ploughing and discover first-hand how the vines are prepared to welcome flowering, which takes place in late May, filling the air with a delicate and highly distinctive aroma. Gastronomically speaking, spring floods the tables of the wine route restaurants with fresh, seasonal vegetables: peas, tender asparagus, garden artichokes and the first broad beans sautéed with sweet bacon. Spring pairings favour youth and aromatic liveliness: mineral young whites, first-press rosés bursting with vitality and vibrant long-aged sparkling wines that celebrate the return of warmer days. The events calendar fills with open-air activities such as the Falset Wine Fair in the Priorat region, the DO Tarragona Wine Fair, the Valls va de Vins Fair held on the third weekend of May in the town of Valls, the ViBa fair in Manresa and the eagerly awaited Vívid festival in the DO Empordà, which together turn the region into one continuous celebration.
