Rupit a> is a fairytale town, with 285 inhabitants, with stone houses integrated into the landscape that surrounds them. Its stone facades, colourful wooden balconies, gable roofs and cobbled streets invite you to take a walk through the medieval past of this charming town.Once you cross the suspension bridge, which joins the two sides of the town and passes over the Rupit creek, the facades of buildings more than 500 years old accompany you along Carrer del Fossar and Plaça Major.Very close by is the first gem of the town's historical heritage: the church of Sant Miquel from the 17th century. Its impressive baroque altarpiece was initially installed in the church of Sant Esteve d'Olot, but when this temple was expanded and a larger one was placed, it was sold to the parish of Rupit.From the centre of Rupit you arrive, after a short walk, at the most spectacular Romanesque building in the area: the church of Sant Joan de Fàbregues, from the 11th century, with a single nave and three apses arranged in a shape of clover.At the edge of this charming town is the Guilleries-Savassona Natural Area and the Collsacabra mountain range. This protected natural environment is characterized by its steep cliffs, lush forests and the presence of the Sau swamp. The Romanesque monastery of Sant Pere de Casserres, from the 12th century, is part of its historical heritage and its surroundings are ideal for all kinds of hiking and mountain biking routes.Get close to the Sallent waterfall, the highest in Catalonia, with a drop of 15 metres, located 5 km from Rupit. Ride a horse on the GR-2 trail to Tavertet, a 7.5 km circular route to enjoy imposing landscapes.If you visit Rupit in December, don't miss its living nativity scene, in which the whole town participates.
