The brilliant figure of Antoni Gaudí is vital when it comes to understanding the essence and urban landscape of Reus. This universal architect was born here and through routes such as Gaudí&Reus you can tour the spaces of his childhood, such as his birthplace and the church of Sant Pere, where he was baptised. The route ends at the Gaudí Centre, the only interpretation centre on the life and work of this architect. But the modernism of Reus does not end there. The legacy of the architects Lluís Domènech i Montaner and Pere Caselles can be admired on the Modernist Route. This tour includes a total of 29 buildings, such as Casa Navàs and the Pere Mata Institute, some of which are usually closed to the public. As you walk between modernist facades you appreciate a whole variety of coloured stained glass windows, ceramic mosaics, Gothic-inspired doors and wrought iron. Reus is a cosmopolitan city with a great commercial tradition on the Costa Dorada. Through a guided tour you discover the historic shops, century-old establishments that still operate in its old town. Vermouth, the traditional drink of Reus, is the protagonist of another route. This town is considered the capital of vermouth in Catalonia, due to its concentration of production factories and for having been one of the largest centers of brandy production in the 18th century, along with London and Paris. After the phylloxera disaster, which destroyed the vines, the industry evolved to produce a new drink: vermouth. The route includes a visit to the Vermouth Museum, a modernist building designed by Pere Caselles, which includes all the history and a large collection of objects and bottles. Take the opportunity to taste this typical drink and some tapas, among which there is certainly no shortage of hazelnuts, a typical product of the area. If you visit Reus during the Festa Major de Sant Pere, the June 29, don't miss the Tronada. This impressive pyrotechnic storm dates back to the 17th century and is one of the most special moments of this traditional festival.
