Vertiginous white-water descents The Catalan section of the Pyrenees is home to the Noguera Pallaresa river. Navigable for 60 km, it is considered Europe’s best for sports such as rafting. Spring is the best time to do this type of water sports, as the rivers are filled with plenty of water as a result from mountain snow melt. The towns of Llavorsí, Rialp and Sort are where most companies that arrange outings and activities related to this sport are located. If you like adventure, you can choose a longer trip with more impressive rapids such as the 18 km descent from Llavorsí to Sort with La Rafting Company, or the section from Llavorsí to Rialp with RocRoi. . At the Parc Olímpic del Segre, in La Seu d’Urgell, you can do rafting along its two 500-metre white-water canals with a 6.5-meter drop. In addition, they have mechanical lifts so you can restart the route without having to get out of the boat. In this park you can combine rafting with other water sports such as paddle surf, canoeing and hydrospeed. This sport consists of going down the river on a water sled. Enjoy canyoning in Catalonia If you prefer canyoning, you can do it in different parts of Catalonia. For example, the Noguera Ribagorçana, in the Pallars Jussà, is home to the Viu de Llevata ravine, considered one of Europe’s best and just one of many found throughout Catalonia. In Val d’Aran you can do a drop into the impressive landscape of the source of the river Joèu. This is the 700-metre Artiga de Lin ravine that combines different descent techniques, slides, jumps and rappels at a medium-high level of difficulty. In the Parc Natural dels Ports, the Montsport company organises descents along the canyoning course of the Canaletes river. In this highly dynamic ravine, with jumps, slides, siphons and waterfalls, there are fantastic pools of turquoise water where you can even take a dip. Natural discoveries and new practices With Kayak del Ter you can go on an adventure and discover the environs of the river Ter, on the Costa Brava. You can take a walk along the 7.5 km stretch that is part of the Mediterranean biological corridors included in the Natura 2000 Network programme. Its riverside forest is one of the best preserved in Catalonia. This is one way to discover the river in an active and biodiversity-friendly manner. You can also try out new water sports. The Paisatges Barcelona, Wake & Ski School suggests you take up water skiing, in its wakeboarding variety, in the Sau reservoir. This reservoir of the river Ter, 17 km long and 3 km wide, is surrounded by cliff faces such as Tavertet and les Guilleries and the Montseny massif. Contemplate the great panoramic views while enjoying the activity. In the current drought situation, some water tourism activities will be restricted or cannot be done. The aim is to preserve these natural spaces and protect them, in order to guarantee their use when the activity can resume.
