Without the heat of summer or the cold of winter, autumn becomes a good time to discover the secrets of our territory. You will be amazed by the landscapes that are dressed in the typical colors of this time of year. Take a walking or cycling route through forests with beech or chestnut trees, they will transport you to true fairy tales. Autumn is also an ideal time to do some urban tourism. Discovering our cities, away from the high temperatures during the summer, is a good option to spend this time of year in Catalonia. In the main metropolises, such as Barcelona or Girona, you will find a wide range of activities of all kinds. It is also an excellent time to visit charming towns, such as Pals, Mura or Montsonís. In Catalonia, autumn also means experiencing with intensity some of the celebrations that are most linked to the agricultural past of our land. Wine and oil are two of the most typical products of the Mediterranean diet and during these months it is high time for picking grapes and olives. Some of the most outstanding festivities that are a real ode to the harvest are the Bages Harvest Festival or the Verdú Wine and Harvest Festival. But if we are talking about traditions and gastronomy, we cannot forget the celebration of the Castanyada (in English, the chestnut festival), the most typical festival of autumn that is celebrated on the eve of All Saints' Day. It's a time to spend as a family eating chestnuts, sweet potatoes and panellets (a typical catalan dessert), accompanied by muscatel wine.
