Swimming in open water, whether in the sea, lakes or rivers, is much more than practising a form of water sport, it is living an adventure and promoting sport in nature. In addition, the Mediterranean climate allows you to enjoy swimming in the open sea almost all year round. So you won't have to worry about the cold. Practising swimming in a natural environment, outside the pool, allows you to discover the treasures of the beaches and the coast, and contemplate from a different perspective the fauna and flora hidden in the waters. Swimmers have the opportunity to discover the biodiversity of the aquatic environment, simply by observing with goggles while swimming. Seeing and knowing what is in the water is the way to love and want to care for all these natural ecosystems. This sustainable and environmentally friendly sport can be practised in many places in Catalonia. Sometimes it is combined with other sports such as hiking and jogging or it is the common thread to get to know the seabed of the Catalan coast, as is the case with the Vies Marines de Salou project. Vies Marines, the marine project of Salou Bringing the wealth and variety of Salou's seabed closer to all water sports lovers is the aim of the project Seaways. It offers two marine itineraries: one of 1,962 meters and medium difficulty that goes from the beach of Capellans to Platja Llarga, and the other of 2,970 meters and low difficulty that goes from Cala Font to Platja Llarga. These open water routes are delimited by buoys that mark the route and allow you to enjoy swimming without worries. SwimRun and SwimLloret: swimming and jogging in Lloret de Mar In Lloret de Mar, in September, the SwimRun is organized, a competition that combines jogging with open water swimming, and the SwimLloret, a swimming crossing with two distances. On the first day, the SwimRun is held, where the participants have to run 12 km: 10.5 km running along the town's cycle paths and then 2 km swimming along the coast of Lloret. In the second, it's the turn of the SwimLloret, a crossing in open water. Swimmers can register in the short 1 km category, starting at Fenals beach and ending at Santa Cristina beach, or in the long 6 km category, which starts at Canyelles beach and ends at Santa Cristina beach.
