We suggest 10 family-friendly hiking routes in Catalonia to explore the region:1. Els Ports, a natural landscape to enjoy with the familyThe experience "Els Ports, a natural landscape to enjoy with the family" begins in Prat de Comte. First, you’ll visit the permanent exhibition at the Els Ports Natural Park Visitor Center, and then follow the Mola trail, a 7.8 km route, with a guide to learn more about the landscape. The trail is easy and recommended for children aged 10 and up. Advance booking is required, and the activity is available all year round.2. Permanent orienteering course in SortThe permanent orienteering course in Sort is designed to test the whole family’s navigation skills through three trails of low, medium, and high difficulty. The routes run through the Aigüestortes and Estany de Sant Maurici National Park and the Alt Pirineu Natural Park.Each route includes 15 checkpoints to find. Families can tackle them in any order. Step by step through the Serra de Queralt in BergaThis route, called Step by step through the Serra de Queralt in Berga, offers one of the best views of the Berguedà region, and its paths are fully accessible for young children. It follows the Queralt mountain range, located in the northwest of the municipality of Berga. The route can be completed in an hour and a half and can be guided to learn about the landscape’s features.4. High-altitude landscapes in the Vall de NúriaThe valley can only be reached by rack railway or on foot. The rack railway ride spans 12.5 km of breathtaking landscapes. It departs from three stations: Ribes Enllaç, Ribes Vila, and Queralbs. Once at the top, you can also take a cable car to Pic de l’Àliga, at 2,170 meters above sea level. From the Vall de Núria, there are various trails to enjoy, from the climb to Puigmal to easy walks like the Camí del Llac or the Camí de la Creu de'n Riba.The station offers many kid-friendly activities like a playground, sledding slope, zipline, and even a climbing wall. Once all are stamped, you’ll receive a prize at the park offices.In the Vall de Boí, a family-friendly trail awaits you through the Aigüestortes and Estany de Sant Maurici National Park. It’s flat and follows a forest track. Along the way, you’ll cross the park's longest wooden bridge and then a walkway leading into a forest of black pine and fir trees. Keep an eye out—you might spot a Pyrenean brown cow!7. Hikes to discover history in Pallars SobiràIn Pyrenees–Noguera Pallaresa you’ll find a variety of trails around Rialp and Vall de la Coma. You can even opt for more cultural walks, like the Exile Trails. There are also activities that combine hiking and orienteering. In Sort, there’s a permanent orienteering circuit in the natural surroundings of the Aigüestortes and Estany de Sant Maurici National Park and the Alt Pirineu Natural Park, with three routes of increasing difficulty. Each has 15 objectives to complete.8. Coastal trails with the family in Baix EmpordàWalking along the sea is a great option for families. These coastal trails are easy and full of surprises for children—hidden coves, castles, sculptures... The Camí de Ronda of Sant Pol in Sant Feliu de Guíxols begins atop the cliff above the port and ends at Sant Pol Beach. Along the way, you’ll pass charming coves perfect for a break and spectacular cliffs like Cap de Mort and Cala del Peix.In Calonge and Sant Antoni, try a section of the Camí de Ronda (GR-92), which starts at Torre Valentina, a former watchtower, and ends at Cala Belladona. In Torroella de Montgrí–l’Estartit, routes with fauna, flora, and heritage experts will introduce you to the rich biodiversity of the Montgrí, Medes Islands, and Baix Ter Natural Park, including its birdlife.In Malgrat de Mar, we recommend a route through the Tordera Delta, where a specialized guide will introduce you to the animal and plant species typical of coastal wetlands. Routes to discover the Costa BravaExploring marine ecosystems is the goal of the Estar and Tit route. Through these friendly characters, who are also local animals, you’ll discover the town’s main tourist attractions. You’ll get a map to find them and an activity booklet with a challenge at each point of interest, marked with signs. Complete them all and earn a prize!The farmhouses of the Cap de Creus Natural Park are the stars of this hiking route in Roses. It takes you through this natural corner of the Costa Brava, passing various farmhouses such as Mas d’en Berta and Mas Ponac. These are all found in the shadow of the Bufalaranya Castle, in the Serra de Rodes. As you hike, you’ll learn about the history and heritage of these buildings.
