With the arrival of the good weather, families can’t wait to dive into the water and practise some water sports. The nautical resorts on the coast and the adventure activity companies inland in Catalonia offer a wide variety of activities to make the most of the water, whether in the sea, the river or a reservoir. Grab your gear and enjoy a day of sport while getting wet! Sailing for beginnershis spring and summer, learn to sail a catamaran with the intensive course organised by the Calafell Sailing School. An instructor will give you a theory class on how to master the wind and the direction of the sail. You will also discover a whole range of seafaring terms such as how to tack. Then it’ll be time to head out to sea and show off your newfound knowledge! The course lasts 8 hours. Ready to hit the sea along the Costa Daurada? Take a cruise in Torroella de Montgrí-L’Estartit and enjoy a day’s sailing around the Illes Medes, an ecosystem of great biological and ecological value, considered the best in the Western Mediterranean. While on the boat, you’ll get to soak in the views of the Montgrí massif, Cala Pedrosa and the spectacular Roca Foradada, a sea cave that can be explored with a kayak. Diving sessions where you can explore the seabedSpring and summer are the ideal seasons to go scuba diving. In Calonge-Sant Antoni, they offer three underwater routes where you can explore the town’s seabed and even see a red starfish or a spider fish up close. There is also a shorter version of each route which is designed for families, and you can do them on your own, without the need for a guide. These three routes under the water leave from Torre Valentina beach, Cala Cristus and Ses Torretes beach. Have you ever been scuba diving? If you fancy giving it a try, Cambrils is the perfect place to start out. The scuba diving offered by Nàutic Parc is both safe and fun. Parasailing and wing foiling as a familyOn the Costa Barcelona there are two places where you can spend a fantastic day by the water: Calella and Santa Susanna. At the Water Sports Centre in both towns you can enjoy all kinds of nautical activities: from paddle surfing and kayaking, to sailing or catamaran sailing. Test your balance on the Banana Bus and the Aqua Rocket, where you will travel across the sea at top speeds on inflatables with your family. For the more adventurous, there is a brand new water sport: parasailing! You will get to soar above the water with a parachute pulled by a boat. The centre has specialised instructors who will guide you and teach you everything you need to know. In Platja d’Aro, Set Sail Costa Brava offers you a new sport to try: wing foiling. This new water sport involves gliding over the sea on a board similar to a paddle board. The difference here is that this board has a wing underneath, meaning the board doesn’t touch the sea. It hovers along above the water which helps you to keep your balance. To steer the board, you use a flexible sail – shaped like an aeroplane – that you hold on to. The speed, the adrenaline and being so close to the sea are the things that you’ll love the most about this sport! You will be taught the basics in a private class. Snorkelling, kayaking and paddle surfing in the Costa Brava and Costa BarcelonaA trip in a kayak to discover places on the Costa Brava such as Cala Ametller or Cala del Niu is what the Guíxols Kayak Centre offers. Halfway through the route you will get to stop and dive into the water and watch the fish, urchins and starfish that inhabit the seabed of Sant Feliu de Guíxols. The outing is suitable for the whole family, for children aged 7 and over. In summer, the waters of Lloret de Mar become the setting for numerous family outings to discover the marine flora and fauna of the Costa Brava. Among the activities on offer, through the town’s Tourist Office you can enjoy a guided snorkelling excursion, led by 2 experienced instructors who will show you the best places in the area. The activity lasts 2 hours and you will be in the water for 45 minutes. In Vilanova i la Geltrú on the Costa Barcelona you will have to decide how you’d like to discover its coastline and beaches, by kayak or paddle board. An expert guide from Roc Roi will accompany you during the excursion to teach you the best technique to use the paddles so you don’t get too tired during the trip. The outing lasts for 2 hours, so go and gather your strength! Rowing and rafting along the rivers of CataloniaThe Aiguamolls de l’Empordà, one of the main wetlands in Catalonia, is an area full of fascinating spots to discover as a family. The SK Kayak school offers you a trip along the Fluvià river to Sant Pere Pescador, aboard a kayak. You will paddle across the river mouth and discover the rich flora, with trees such as the elm and the poplar, and also the fauna, mainly water birds such as the ardeids. In addition, you can hop off on the island of Caramany and invade the beach as if you were pirates! Do you fancy some excitement in the water? In Pirineus-Noguera Pallaresa you’ll get to experience the white waters of the Noguera Pallaresa river, navigating the waters on a raft along the Llavorsí-Rialp section. While aboard, you will alternate calmer sections with rapids such as Quatre Llarg, where you’ll get to experience waves, a narrow gulley and fast-moving water along a 3 km stretch. Fun in the water at the reservoirs and lakes in the Pyrenees of CataloniaIf you visit the inland area of Catalonia, get ready for a trip across the Baells reservoir near Berga in a a href="https://isyourhome.catalunya.com/inspiracio/a-trip-on-the-water-at-the-baells-reservoir-in-berga/">kayak, where you will get to enjoy sport and culture at the same time. In the middle of the reservoir is the monastery of Sant Salvador de la Vedella, the only remaining one from the old town of the same name, and once flooded by the waters of the reservoir. After the kayak trip you can enjoy sliding down into the water from the shore. In Valls d’Àneu a great day out awaits you at Torrassa lake. There you will get to enjoy Big SUP, a form of stand-up paddle that involves standing up on a board while paddling through the water. It’s an activity that combines balance with effort and relaxation. The board can fit 10 people and while you paddle through the clear and calm waters of the lake, you can take in the landscape among the peaks of the Alt Pirineu Natural Park. Are you ready, families?!
