If you’re looking for the perfect ski resort for your family, look no further than these: Espot, Port Ainé, Vallter, La Molina, Vall de Núria, Boí-Taüll and Masella. But this isn’t just anyone’s point of view; they truly are the best of the bunch, as they have each been granted the Family Tourism seal awarded by the Catalan Tourism Board. To obtain this certification they must meet a series of requirements, such as having separate slopes with slow speed zones so that children can use them, or a children’s club or ski school. These family ski resorts have everything ready for the winter season, all that’s missing is you and your family! La Molina: Explore the snowy peaks on a segway La Molina makes it easy for your children to love the snow just as much as you do. At the ski school, they have two areas designed for kids to get used to the snow. For children above the age of four there is the Snow Park. It has a transporter tape at the foot of the Pista Llarga slope, and private lessons are held there. The Children’s Park is the other space for children from six months of age. It is supervised by resort staff and there is a play area, cots and beds. In La Molina there are two slopes where you can go sledging with your children, and if you prefer to try it on a big inflatable ring, there are two tubing tracks in the family area of El Bosquet. In the first one you throw yourself down a slide and in the one at Coll de Pal you slide down on the snow. Would you like to take your family on a surprise outing? Why not go on a segway tour? An instructor will take you along various mountain paths for you to enjoy the Pyrenean landscapes with this high-tech means of transport. Another activity you cannot miss is the Snow Escape ‘Avalanche Alert’. It is an escape room activity in the snow where you will have to pretend you are a rescuer in an avalanche and make difficult decisions. Will you succeed? What’s more, as a family tourism resort, they have nappy changing facilities for babies in all the bathrooms at the resort. Vallter: Indoor play with staff to entertain your children The resort located in Setcases, seen as the most Mediterranean of them all, is the ideal destination for families. It has a playroom inside the L’Esquirol Fajol Snow Park-Miniclub. Children can participate in educational workshops and games led by qualified staff. While they’re having fun, you’ll get to whizz down the slopes! It is open on weekends and holidays from 9am to 1pm and is for children between 3 and 8 years old. Children who visit often won’t get bored with the same activities; each weekend is organised around a different theme, such as pirates or animals. There are so many things to do! A more relaxed family alternative is snowshoeing. The ski resort provides four routes that you can follow at your own leisure, and as well as this, there are also guided tours with different levels of difficulty. In addition, they have expanded the provision of children’s activities and events with the incorporation of two ski schools. Vall de Núria: Snow, rack railway and family fun The Vall de Núria ski resort aims to be a family facility all year round. The Play Park is the resort’s main attraction for kids, and it has been designed so that you can enjoy the snow with your family. There are slopes for sledging, tubing slopes of different lengths, a height balancing obstacle course, a zipline and even a climbing wall for the little ones. This winter you can enjoy Christmas with your little ones on a family getaway to the ski resort. The Christmas activities will take place from December 3 to January 7. In addition, throughout the winter season you will find a wide variety of activities for the whole family such as workshops, guided tours, piano concerts and much more. To get to the station you will need to take the Núria rack railway. It covers a distance of 12.5 kilometres and climbs more than 1,000 m, offering you unique panoramic vistas of the valley. Now you also have the chance to make the journey aboard the new MGB cars, vintage Swiss vehicles from 1963. Port Ainé: A morning of ski initiation The ski and mountain resort of Pallars has an Adventure Park in the Trees within the Leisure and Adventure Park. Log escalators of 7 m high, a Tibetan bridge and zip lines are just some of the exciting parts of the circuit that children aged over 7 and 1.20 m tall can enjoy, accompanied by an adult. The park has all the safety measures. There is also the Miniclub Port Ainé children’s area, located in the Hotel Port Ainé 2000***. There, children aged between 2 and 6 can enjoy games and excitement, accompanied by qualified instructors, while you get to ski non-stop! It is a space designed to develop creativity and imagination through staff-led activities such as role-play games and games which test your skill. Miniclub hours are from 9.30am to 3pm and from 3.30pm to 4.30pm on weekends and public holidays. Availability must be checked during the week. Remember that in municipalities such as Rialp or Sort you will find restaurants and accommodation to complete your winter escape. Espot: A wealth of choices for playing in the snow Espot, also in Pallars, has the privilege of being located next to the Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici National Park. Therefore, a visit to the ski resort allows you to enjoy this natural space of great beauty. If you go with children, take advantage of the Espot Play Park, which has tubing, a slope for sledging and a snow garden with educational material, coordination games and rest areas. This season the resort has a new tubing track in the beginners’ area. It is 140 metres long, with an area for climbing on your inflatable ring, two ramps and an arrival area with a stopping slope and carpets to facilitate braking. It can be enjoyed by children over one metre tall or over 4 years old (accompanied by an adult) and adults with a maximum weight of 100 kg. There is a lot more fun to be had besides skiing! Espot is located in Valls d’Àneu, one of the destinations in the Pyrenees of Catalonia which has the Family Tourism seal of the CTB. This means that you will find countless activities to do with your kids. The certified accommodation also has your children in mind, with children’s supplies and activities to make your stay easier. Boí-Taüll: Combine skiing with cultural activities The Boí-Taüll Leisure Area is ideal for your little ones. It is a space designed for children and families to have fun and there is a childcare service and a snow park. You may already be familiar with the cultural side of Vall de Boí, through the Romanesque heritage that can be found there. There is also another, very important side to Vall de Boí… what they offer for families! This area of the Pyrenees is also certified as a family destination. A great way to combine family and culture is with the activity ‘Storytellers and Legends of Vall de Boí’. These are short excursions where you will discover the valley while listening to ancient legends of fantastic and mythological creatures from the Pyrenees of Catalonia. Masella: When night falls, the skiing begins This ski resort in La Cerdanya is also certified with the Family Tourism seal. The night skiing here is already legendary and is just one of the reasons why this resort stands out. Your children will love skiing under the moonlight and experiencing the amazing atmosphere of the place. Masella also has a snow garden for children aged 3 to 6 to learn to ski. If they are younger, between 18 months and 3 years, they can play in the Kids House, which is part of the Masella Ski School facilities. Both services operate on weekends and holidays. To enjoy all the family activities in Masella, you should spend the night in the area. There is plenty of accommodation at the foot of the ski slopes, as well as hotels, apartments, campsites and rural houses in the surrounding municipalities. Whether you want to have time to ski alone, or to enjoy the snow with your children, there is a whole host of benefits you’ll find in the family ski and mountain resorts in Catalonia.
