The Catalan Tourist Board and National Geographic were the leading promoters of the Ecotour Challenge. This initiative aims to generate innovative, sustainable solutions and conscious and regenerative tourism. In this way, everyone can participate in this program and enjoy a training and support process to create innovative proposals that would positively impact the territory. "Ecotour" refers to sustainable tourism, respecting the natural environment and regeneration. In other words, it is no longer a question of minimizing the ecological footprint but of the fact that it positively impacts the environment, the inhabitants, and the local culture. To do this, the proactive attitude of all people sensitized to preserving the natural environment is necessary. Ecotour Challenge’s aims and goals The main goal of the Ecotour Challenge is to raise awareness and encourage the population to protect and preserve our extraordinary natural heritage. Volunteers have been encouraged to propose and provide viable and practical solutions to problems in our natural environment. The concern for preserving nature is global; therefore, all the solutions offered from a local perspective can also have a broader application. The Ecotour Challenge is and has been a real challenge that wanted everyone's participation. For this reason, there has been some support so that the best ideas can move forward and be applied in those areas in Catalonia that need it most. A pioneering method to promote sustainable tourism The Ecotour Challenge followed the Lombard Method, a radical learning system consisting of different phases (inspiration, creativity, validation, and communication) to maximise its success. The nine most attractive proposals made it to the grand finale, and the winners were Origen, Green Dogs and Sylva Hábitat, after all the projects' defence and deliberation. The three teams were able to travel, accompanied by a group of experts, on a trip through different parts of Catalonia to validate their proposals on the ground. This experience has inspired all participants to continue working with their sustainable tourism ideas. The Catalan Tourist Board leads projects like the Ecotour Challenge because they encourage citizen participation and make us move towards increasingly sustainable tourism. Everyone can contribute their grain of sand to ensure that our activity benefits the environment and the populations we visit. In Catalonia, you will find numerous examples of the application of innovative solutions to ensure that our footprint is positive. That's the ultimate goal, and you have a lot to say!
