Dinghy sailing has an international event this spring in Barcelona: the 51st Comte de Godó Sailing Trophy. In this competition, held from 29 May to 2 June, the two-person cruiser class boats take part, along with the usual ORC cruiser classes and J70 monohulls. The latter is a sports yacht 6.93 meters in length for 4 crew members. Nearly 80 boats and 550 sailors, representing around thirty countries, will be taking part in this regatta. In the 2023 edition, the regatta added the Women's Cup category, in the J70 monohull competition. At the 51st Comte de Godó Sailing Trophy, in addition to the water competitions, various activities and tasting events are held in the Village installed on the esplanade of the Club Nàutic de Barcelona, a yacht club where many a sailor is to be found. The awards are presented at a ceremony to the winners of each category. History of this Mediterranean competition The Comte de Godó Trophy came about in 1974 at the initiative of Carlos Godó, the second Count of Godó. His aim was to create a regatta to promote dinghy sailing and delight the sea-loving people of Barcelona. Today this competition, held continuously since its inception, is one of the most important in the Mediterranean. Club Nàutic de Barcelona, together with the collaboration of the Royal Spanish Sailing Federation and the Catalan Sailing Federation, organises this regatta, which has the support of La Vanguardia, Barcelona City Council and the Generalitat de Catalunya.
