Castles, charming towns, sites from different eras... take advantage of the trip to enjoy your motoring enthusiasm and to discover Catalonia through its heritage. Catalonia is a land where the love of motorcycles is deeply rooted. You will find endless possibilities of routes, and you will indeed find one that suits what you are looking for. Here, we make 7 suggestions that will allow you to get to know some of the most exciting attractions in our territory. They will surely surprise you. 1. Montserrat and its surroundings Located just 70 kilometres from Barcelona, the mountain of Montserrat is one of the most popular destinations for Catalan motorcycle enthusiasts. A perfect route to dedicate a day, or even just a few hours, because getting to Montserrat is straightforward. Shortly after leaving the metropolitan area of Barcelona behind, you will come across a landscape where the road winds follow the stone walls that warn us that Montserrat is already close. At the same time, on the other side, the Llobregat River accompanies us. Once in the mountain, you can reach the Benedictine monastery of Montserrat, which gives spectacular views of the whole area. On the way back, we recommend changing the route and going down through the areas of Bages or Anoia, allowing us to have a small taste of the typical Catalan interior landscape. Of course, the silhouette of Montserrat will not leave us and will always witness our route. 2. The trans-Pyrenean route in Catalonia by motorbike This is one of the most traditional and well-known routes among motorcycle enthusiasts, one that you must do at least once. The trans-Pyrenean route crosses the Pyrenees from the Mediterranean to the Cantabrian Sea. The Catalan section crosses the provinces of Lleida and Girona. It is the best way to discover the high mountain landscapes of our land with all its diversity. You will pass from the steep coast of Empordà and the rural atmosphere of Ripollès or Cerdanya to the roads with spectacular views that take us from La Seu d'Urgell to Sort, from the vertiginous layout of the port of Bonaigua to the unique places that the Val d'Aran gives us. You can discover villages with stone houses and slate roofs, waterfalls and forests and enjoy the views from the highest roads of the Catalan Pyrenees. 3. The motorcycle route through the Empordà The Empordà is a land of country houses and wines. Still, there is also a distinct maritime atmosphere on the coast, without forgetting the prominence of culture and art with the universal figure of Salvador Dalí. We can start our tour at Port de la Selva and follow Dalí's footsteps towards Cadaqués and Figueres. The smooth roads of the interior invite us to discover small villages like Garriguella or Espolla among the vineyards of the DO Empordà. And when we go down to the south, we will encounter the natural majesty of the Empordà marshes and the charming town of Peratallada before making our way to the most authentic Costa Brava, full of cliffs and small coves in Begur, Calella from Palafrugell or Palamós. The Empordà has sea and mountains, rural landscapes and urban environments, art and charming villages... a route offering everything. 4. Discovering the Costa Daurada and its colors The Camp de Tarragona and the Terres de l'Ebre offer varied landscapes, tourist and cultural attractions, good gastronomy and a favourable climate that invites you to travel its roads any time of the year. In the north of Tarragona, we recommend starting the route between the beaches of Torredembarra and Altafulla. From there, head to Tarragona to contemplate its Roman legacy and continue enjoying the shores of the Costa Daurada in places like Salou or Cambrils. Afterwards, head south and turn inland through the Llaberia and Cardó-el Boix mountain ranges to look back towards the coast, following the course of the Ebre through Miravet, Benifallet or Tortosa. The Delta de l'Ebre Natural Park will be the best setting to finish the route, again next to the sea, in a unique natural environment. 5. Through Montseny on a bike Montseny is one of the most accessible mountain ranges from Barcelona. It is an ideal place to spend an entertaining day on two wheels, enjoying the road and extraordinary natural sites just a short distance from Barcelona. One of the easiest ways to enter the natural park is from Sant Celoni. From there, you can complete an exciting route along narrow roads surrounded by forests and mountains, crossing the villages of Seva or Viladrau. On this occasion, leave the most iconic spot of the route for the end, going up to Turó de l'Home. You can park the motorbikes in the car park close to the peak that offers views from the Mediterranean Sea to the Pyrenees. 6. Touring the volcanic area of La Garrotxa Can you imagine being able to ride your motorcycle on roads that pass between extinct volcanoes? In La Garrotxa, you can do it. It is a region of unique natural attractions and landscapes that invite you to stroll and let the hours go by among forests and hills. The best way to start this route is from Banyoles, where you can make a short stop at its lake. From here, take the road to Olot, crossing Santa Pau and the heart of the Garrotxa Volcanic Natural Park. During the route, stop as many times as you want. The landscape is worth it, especially in autumn. 7. The Serra de Collserola If you have just a few hours to spare or want to stay within Barcelona, you can take your motorbike and drive through the Serra de Collserola Natural Park. You will be surprised to find a place like this so close to the Catalan capital. You have kilometres of roads to take routes and visit places like Vallvidrera, Tibidabo, Sant Cugat del Vallès or the Collserola Tower. You can stop at some of the many viewpoints spread throughout the way, with spectacular views of Barcelona. Due to its landscape and proximity to the city, Collserola has become a natural meeting point for motorcycle fans.
