Catalonia is hiking: routes through nature, spectacular landscapes and historical paths. There's a network of 5,000 km of long-distance tracks, trails and footpaths (GR), as well as another 4,000 shorter paths and local walks.
If you like hiking, you can cross Catalonia from north to south and west to east, from the western Pyrenees to Cap de Creus... And you will enjoy exceptional, unique countryside. If you come with your family, friends, your partner... you'll have trouble choosing just one. But you'll be back to do another.
To whet your whistle, there's one footpath that is full of spirituality and tradition: the Way of Saint James takes you from inland Catalonia to join up with the routes of Aragon.
If you prefer the most authentic, best preserved nature, you can choose the routes of the Pyrenees within the Aigüestortes and Sant Maurici Lake National Park, such as the Carros de Foc (Chariots of Fire) Route. You can also choose between the route of the valley of the Vultures, Pallars Jussà, or visit the park of Cadí-Moixeró and climb the emblematic Pedraforca.
You can hike amidst the volcanoes of the Garrotxa and reach the marshlands of the Empordà. You can visit world heritage monasteries on the Cistercian route in Tarragona and climb the magic mountain of Montserrat.

These are the Catalan grandes routes for traverses of more than two days and 50 km. Here you have some of the most outstanding:
GR 92: Sender Mediterrani
Desde el Cap de Creus a la Sierra del Montsià, el GR 92 recorre todos los azules y la esencia del Mediterráneo en Cataluña.
GR 11: Sender dels Pirineus
El GR 11 o Sendero del Pirineo es el sendero de gran recorrido más montañoso de todos los que hay en territorio catalán. Recorre los Pirineos por su vertiente sur, desde el Cantábrico hasta el Mediterráneo, atravesando picos, valles, pueblos, bosques y cordilleras de una gran belleza y valor natural.
GR 175: Ruta dels Reials Monestirs de Catalunya
La Ruta del Císter une los tres grandes monasterios cistercienses de Cataluña: Santes Creus, Poblet y Vallbona de les Monges. Este recorrido permite admirar el rico patrimonio cultural e histórico de esta zona de interior y, al mismo tiempo, disfrutar de paseos en plena naturaleza.
GR 5: Sender dels Miradors o dels Parcs Naturals: Sitges - Canet de Mar
Cruza hasta cinco parques naturales en esta ruta que enmarca el àrea metropolitana de Barcelona.
GR 4: Puigcerdà-Montserrat
El sendero GR 4 forma parte del GR europeo E-7 y enlaza Puigcerdà con Montserrat. Pasa por lugares de alto interés paisajístico, recorre un tramo del río Llobregat y se encuentra con edificios religiosos destacados.
GR 1: Sender Transversal
De Empúries a la Noguera Ribargorçana, la parte catalana del GR1 recorre el Prepirineo y cruza todo tipo de paisajes y municipios.
GR 83: Camí del Nord
Este sendero recupera el trazado que siguieron miles de exiliados entre enero y febrero de 1939, huyendo hacia Francia por la collada de Malrem. Asimismo, recupera caminos que enlazan unos territorios vinculados por una historia y una cultura comunes.
GR 107: Camí dels Bons Homes
El Camí dels Bons Homes nos ofrece la posibilidad de seguir las huellas de los cátaros por pueblos, iglesias y castillos medievales. Rodeados por el espectacular paisaje del Parc Natural del Cadí-Moixeró (Parque Natural del Cadí-Moixeró), hacemos un viaje al pasado para descubrir cuáles fueron las rutas de migración de los cátaros entre los siglos XII y XIV.
GR 211: Circular de la Val d'Aran
El camino descubre todos los rincones de la Val d'Aran, desde los más turísticos hasta valles en los que la presencia humana es testimonial.
GR 3: Sender Central de Catalunya
700 km de recorrido señalizado para conocer en profundidad el patrimonio natural, arquitectónico e industrial de las comarcas del interior de Cataluña. ¿Te atreves?
GR 96: Camí Romeu a Montserrat
El camino Romeo entre Barcelona y el Monestir de Montserrat es un sendero de larga tradición histórica, muy transitado antiguamente por los romeros que peregrinaban hacia Santiago y hacían parada en la montaña sagrada.

GR 99: Camí de l’Ebre (tram català)
El GR 99 es uno de los últimos senderos de gran recorrido homologados dentro de la red catalana de senderos, en 2007. El recorrido, en su conjunto, recorre el río Ebro durante 1.200 km desde el nacimiento en Cantabria hasta la desembocadura el Delta, siguiendo los caminos históricos.

Camí de Sant Jaume
El tramo catalán del Camino de Santiago empieza en el Cabo de Creus (Costa Brava) i finaliza en Alcarràs (Terres de Lleida), entrando después en tierras aragonesas. Algunos de los puntos de interés que se pueden ver durante el recorrido son el Monasterio de San Pedro de Rodes o Montserrat.
The Ignatian Way
Es un camino de peregrinación internacional que empieza en la casa natal de San Ignacio, en el Santuario de Loyola (Guipúzcoa) y acaba en la Cueva de Manresa, donde el santo vivió una profunda experiencia espiritual que marcó su vida.
Estels del Sud
La ruta Estels del Sud realiza un itinerario circular uniendo cinco refugios del Parc Natural dels Ports (Parque Natural de Els Ports). Es un recorrido a pie indicado para gente en buena forma física, que puede hacerse en modalidad de travesía o de carrera.

Vías Verdes: Ruta por la Terra Alta
La Vía Verde de la Terra Alta sigue el tramo del antiguo ferrocarril entre La Puebla de Híjar (Aragón) y Tortosa. Durante el recorrido se cruzan túneles y viaductos, además de paisajes boscosos y ambientes rurales.
Vías Verdes: Ruta del Carrilet I. Olot-Girona
El recorrido del antiguo tren de vía estrecha, o carrilet, que unía Olot con Girona ha sido remodelado y adaptado al uso cicloturista. Incluso las vías fueron sustituidas por una superficie de tierra compactada.
Vías Verdes: Ruta del Carrilet II. Girona-Sant Feliu de Guíxols
La Ruta del Carrilet entre Girona y Sant Feliu de Guíxols lleva desde la capital gerundense hasta las aguas de la Costa Brava, pasando por paisajes boscosos.
Vías Verdes: Ruta del Hierro y el Carbón
La tradición de fragua de esta zona de la comarca del Ripollès, unida a la minería del carbón desarrollada en Ogassa, han motivado que la vía verde que prosigue la línea de ferrocarril entre Ripoll y Sant Joan de les Abadesses sea bautizada como Ruta del Hierro y el Carbón.
Green Routes. Following the train tracks
The green routes are old railway infrastructures that are now in disuse and have become cycle-touring and hiking routes. They are legally recognised routes, which ensures accessibility to all users, without age or physical ability limits.
