EuroVelo 8 and the Mediterranean route: Catalonia's Mediterranean cycling route.

The EuroVelo 8 Mediterranean route is a long-distance European cycle tourism route that runs about 5,900 km of coastline, from Cyprus to the south of the Iberian Peninsula, passing through 11 different countries. In Catalonia, it joins La Jonquera with Ulldecona. In addition, it is complemented by the pre-coastal Mediterranean route between Hostalric and El Vendrell, where Barcelona is the point of exchange between the two routes. It is currently in service from La Jonquera to Sils and also from Premià de Mar to Viladecans, passing through Barcelona. 

The pre-coastal Mediterranean route or route 3 is the regional cycling route that complements the international EuroVelo8 route, which runs along the coast. The Mediterranean route 3 offers new cycling opportunities along the Catalan coastline, specifically in the regions of Vallès Oriental, Vallès Occidental, Barcelonès, Baix Llobregat, Alt Penedès and Baix Penedès. The sections running are Montcada i Reixac-Sant Adrià de Besòs and Sant Boi de Llobregat-Martorell. The Mediterranean route is known as route 3 of the Catalan cycle tourism network and the sections that are part of it are connected to EuroVelo 8, for example, in the city of Barcelona. The objective is that the EuroVelo 8 route follows the coastline from La Jonquera to Ulldecona, to Terres de l'Ebre, and route 3 complements it on the pre-coastal area.
