The municipality of Ullastret extends along the bank of the river Daró, from which they extract the water needed for the variety of crops that surround it. To the east of the village there used to be a large pond (around 3 km2), that has never quite disappeared entirely: every twenty years or so, heavy rain breaks the banks of the river, the canal is blocked and the pond returns...
The town is known throughout the country for archaeological sites including the Iberian village of Puig de Sant Andreu, and Reixac island. In addition, the town overlooks it all from the top of the hill. Declared to be a Historical-Artistic Monument, it maintains its medieval walls, ten imposing towers and steep, narrow lanes in very good condition. It also boasts the remarkable church of Sant Pere(12th century).
