Transcatalunya: Vandellòs – Tortosa

A 68-kilometre route that connects the towns of Vandellòs and Tortosa, and that forms part of the long TransCatalonia route. Some sections follow the GR 192-1 footpath.

The stage begins in Vandellòs, where you cross the town to head for Borrià gorge and a long, steep climb. You then begin a long descent along trails and footpaths, first on a very steep slope until Els Taixos gorge before it levels off. The path follows the GR 192-1 footpath to the quarries near Mas de Sénen, where you leave the GR footpath and turn right, crossing the two quarries until you reach the tarmacked road.

Ride for several kilometres over tarmac until Mas de la Rabassa, where the highway becomes a dirt track on a gentle uphill climb. You will first be surrounded by crops and then by repopulated forest areas until Vallplana lake, where you take a trail on your right to continue downhill until you come to the gorge of the same name.

Where the different cliffs meet and at Mas d'en Guitard, you will begin to climb again to the mountain pass, surrounded by cropland until you reach the steepest part where the land changes, with the fields being replaced with areas of undergrowth with relatively few trees.

From here, in the same unpopulated environment, you begin a long descent to an area of large meadows before climbing up to the En Favaró hut where you will see the GR footpath markings once again. Follow these markings downhill, first along dirt trails and then over paving, to the hermitage of La Mare de Déu del Coll de l'Alba and the mountain pass of the same name, where you begin your descent over concrete to the town of Tortosa and the end of the route.
