Transcatalunya: Torres de Segre – Vilanova de la Barca

This section of the long TransCatalonia route starts in Torres de Segre and ends in Vilanova de la Barca, passing through Sudanell, Montoliu de Lleida, Albatàrrec, Lleida, Llivia and Corbins.

Leave Torres de Segre and head for Seròs canal until you come to the service road that you take on your left. Pass the outskirts of Sudanell to the C-230 road, where you leave the canal and take the path alongside the fruit tree fields until you meet the road once again at Montoliu de Lleida. Cross the highway here and you will come to Seròs canal again before following the service road on the right bank towards Lleida.

Go around Albatàrrec and, after around one kilometre, leave the canal and take the C-230 road on your right, being very careful with the traffic, before turning left after fifty metres along the renewed and signposted Camí del Río Segre trail. This will take you to the outskirts of Lleida, where the trail turns into a tarmacked road. Shortly before entering the repaired section of the river as it passes through Lleida, follow a short part of around twenty metres in the opposite direction. This part allows traffic so be very careful.

Meet the river under one of the bridges eading to Lleida and follow its right bank until the Salt de Seròs dam, which is the start of the canal of the same name. Go around its right-hand side, following paved paths until you come to the entrance to the park, a point of interest for its flora and fauna.

Cross the park and the Segre river, following the paths and walkways towards Lleida until you come to the Font i Quer roadabout, where you take Carrer de Xavier Puig i Andreu. After a few metres, turn 180 degrees and continue along the streets of the neighbourhoods of Lleida until the LP-9221, a road that you follow for a few metres to your right, heading for the town of Llívia. You soon leave the road and continue along quiet, tarmacked roads, crossing Llívia and the A-2 motorway before reaching the C-12 road, where you turn left and carry straight on for a few metres before following the concrete path alongside the road.

At Corbins, take the C-12 road until the turn-off to Vilanova de la Barca, which you reach along the road that crosses the Segre river over Vilanova bridge. There is different accommodation in the town. If you follow the GPS tracker you will come to Racó d'en Pep campsite and La Vinya guesthouse, the end of the stage. The route ends in Vilanova de la Barca because of therange of accommodation, unlike other villages nearer the route, which have no or almost no accommodation.
