Transcatalunya: Prades – Mont-roig del Camp

A mostly downhill stage but with constant climbs to the castle of the Monastery of Sant Miquel d’Escornalbou and a last long descent to Mont-roig del Camp.

The stage starts in the village of Prades and runs along trails surrounded by fields. After a few kilometres you begin to climb through forestland and areas of low plant life, until you reach the L’Andreu mountain pass, the highest point of the entire stage. It is almost all downhill after this mountain pass, but not all, because the constant, short climbs really make your legs tired.

From the L’Andreu mountain pass and until the village of Arbolí, you pass through rather wild forestland and past several country houses near the route.

In Arbolí, take the TV-7012 road for around 5 kilometres until you meet the C-242 road on the Alforja mountain pass, where you leave the tarmac and take a dirt trail to your left.

Notice the many different junctions you will come to along this part, making sure you do not go the wrong way.

The cropland, some in use and others not, blends in with areas of typically Mediterranean plant life.

Once you reach the hermitage of La Mare de Déu de Puigcerver on your left, with Puigcerver mountain on your right, you will start a gentle descent towards the La Teixeta mountain pass, along the sierra that, after a few kilometres, becomes a service road for the El Coll de la Teixeta wind farm and you will ride very close past the wind turbines. Be careful with the traffic.

On the La Teixeta mountain pass you will come to the roundabout on the N-420 road where you continue towards Duesaigües until the next roundabout, on the T-313 road. Leave the tarmac at this point and head for Argentera, along trails and footpaths with the markings of the GR footpath.

From Argentera you begin a gentle climb along well-kept trails until you come to the TP-3211 road. At this point you can turn left to visit the castle of the Monastery of Sant Miquel d’Escornalbou and the hermitage of Santa Bàrbara, the last high point of the route, because from here on it is all downhill until the end of the stage.<> From the castle, take the TP-3211 road for around one kilometre until you come to the trail leading into a forest area and that will take you to Vilanova d’Escornalbou. From here on and until you reach Mont-roig del Camp, you will ride along trails surrounded by cropland, mostly downhill. All that remains is to cross the village to reach Mont-roig del Camp - Miami Platja MTB Centre reception point alongside the sports area and the velodrome.
