Torroella de Montgrí – Figueres

To reach Figueres from Torroella de Montgrí, leave behind the towns of Ullà, Bellcaire, L’Escala, Sant Pere Pescador… until you reach Vilatenim.

At the first roundabout, turn left along Passeig Vicenç Bou until you come to Plaça Espanya square. At the end of the square, carry on left along Carrer Figueres, take the first right onto Carrer Tamuntana, cross the road and carry on along the same street. Right at the end is a signpost that indicates L’Escala-Ullà and Bellcaire. Continue along the street downhill to your left (Carrer Josep Carner) that leads to the cemetery. After a few metres you will come to the municipality of Ullà. Carry straight on to the roundabout, where you enter the industrial estate along the road to the right, passing the cemetery and then the football pitch.

227.00 Km (22 m) You have reached the village of Ullà. Continue along the straight street on your right towards Bellcaire-L’Escala. Carry straight on until you leave the village along the tarmacked trail. You will come to a crossroads. Take the tail to the right towards Bellcaire-Albons-L’Escala.

230.30 Km (16 m) You have reached Bellcaire. Carry straight on a cross the L’Escala road(G-632). Continue along Carrer Molí. After the climb, at the end of the road turn right onto Carrer Orient and carry straight on to leave Bellcaire along the road leading to Albons.

233.30 Km (8 m) You will now reach Albons along the Bellcaire road. You will come to the square where you turn right towards L’Escala. Take the first street to the left towards L’Escala. From now on, there are no more burgundy signposts indicating the Baix Empordà cycle touring network.

235.20 Km (2m) There is a roundabout before you reach L’Escala. Before reaching the roundabout, take the street to the right, El Camí Ramader, which passes under the road and continues along Carrer Camí Ramader until Carrer Mas d’en Llop, where you turn left. On reaching the road, turn left onto Carrer Closa d’en Llop. On coming to a small square, continue right along Carrer Miquel Àngel right to the top and then along Carrer Escorxador on the left until you reach Carrer Lluís Companys, which runs uphill on the right towards L’Escala. After a left-hand bend and before you reach the carpark, the entrance to the pedestrian and cycle path that passes the ruins of Empúries can be found to your left. It is signposted by a green banner. Take this path, which leads to Sant Martí d’Empúries.

240.80 Km (8 m) Sant Martí d’Empúries. Without leaving the cycle path, after the wall between the sea and the church, turn left to join the path again a little further on. Once again, it runs alongside the sea. Follow this path through the houses until you reach the beach.

241.60 Km (0 m) You have reached the beach. Follow the dirt trail on the left along the canal. On reaching the road, follow it to your right. Continue along the road. At one point there is a bike path that runs alongside the road.

245.10 Km (1 m) After Las Dunas campsite, the bike path turns to the right and follows a dirt trail, which is sometimes very narrow. Cross the first road running to the beach and alongside a campsite. It ends at a tarmacked road where you turn right and then left. The path continues through marshland, a few campsites and the beach, crossing the road leading to the beach several times. At the end of the trail is a wide road where you turn left. At the first roundabout, turn left down the street that leads to the centre of Sant Pere Pescador.

250.60 Km (3 m) Sant Pere Pescador. After crossing the bridge over the Fluvià river, take the street on your right (Camí del Joncar) until you come to a roundabout where you take Carrer Provença. Continue along this street until you come to another roundabout, where you take the road leading to Aiguamolls de l’Empordà natural park, Roses and Castelló d’Empúries.

253.80 Km (1 m) There is a turn-off on the right, at La Mata campsite. After 500 m, the tarmacked trail leads to a carpark that is the start of two nature routes to Cortalet. Follow this path to the interpretation centre.

256.90 Km (3 m) El Cortalet (Parc Natural dels Aiguamolls de l’Empordà - Els Aiguamolls de l’Empordà Natural Park). Behind the natural park information centre, cross a bridge and carry straight on towards Europa lagoon. On the right you can visit an observation point over El Vortalet lagoon. The path carries straight on, around the fence of the nature reserve. After 1.5 Km, turn left along a cycle path that runs parallel to the trail. Pass two posts to leave the property before entering it again after 150 m having turned right and passing another two posts.

259.80 Km (3 m) The path to Europa lagoon and Les Millores observation point are to the left, but the route goes right to the Els Capons observation point. After 550 m, turn left and the path runs along a wide rail that continues to the nature reserve, between the lagoon and a water treatment plant. Turn right, pass in front of the water treatment plant and cross the bridge over the Muga river. The bridge leads to a rest area and, on your right, to a trail that follows the river. Take this trail on the right, upstream of the river. Stay on Camí de la Muga.

261.00 Km (6 m) After crossing the bridge under the road, the path turns into a dirt track. At this point, take the ramp up to the right that will take you back to the bike path. Carry straight on along this path. Castelló d’Empúries will be on your right.

264.60 Km (9 m) The bike path ends at the bridge. The route continues along the street to the right, which is called Carrer del Pont. Turn first left to continue along Carrer Figueres. Turn first right to continue along Carrer Cadaqués. Turn first left to continue along Carrer Panissarts, which becomes Carrer Sant Llàtzer until you come to the roundabout. On the left at the other side of the roundabout there is a dirt trail among the reeds. Take this trail and carry straight on.

268.20 Km (14 m) You reach Vilanova de la Muga along a turn-off that is indicated as the Figueres-Roses cycle touring route, signposted by a green banner. Continue along this route towards Figueres, downhill to your left. Having passed the river, take the tarmacked trail on your right. Continue along this road.

273.10 Km (17 m) You are now in Vilatenim. Turn right at the fork. You will come to Carrer Nou de Vilatenim where you turn right. On reaching the turn-off to Vilabertran, continue left towards Figueres.

274.10 Km (18 m). You have reached Figueres. Follow the signposting of the route and turn right onto Carrer Vilatenim, passing behind a spare parts workshop. Pass in front of the Civic Centre and leave the Francia-Portbou turn-off to your right. Cross the railway line and turn left, following the track. At a carpark, turn right onto Carrer Sant Joan Baptista and take the second left along Carrer Colom. On reaching Carrer Vilallonga, turn left and then immediately right. You will come to the railway station (257.80 Km). End of the route.
