Catalonia is the territory with the highest concentration of sports businesses in Europe. For more than a century, with the emergence of modern sport, research and training centres, clubs, associations, federations, public administrations and companies have built an ecosystem that has resulted in a very dynamic sports industry. It is a growth that experienced a qualitative leap in 1992, when the elebration of the Olympic Games made Barcelona the world capital of sport. Not only has this Olympic flame kept burning, but the Catalan capital, and all of Catalonia, has remained a benchmark for innovation in the sports sector. This strength in such a specific sector is crucial for generating and attracting professional events and meetings. The organizational capacity, entrepreneurial and research spirit, excellent quality of sports facilities, and solid sporting foundation in Catalonia are decisive factors that explain the excellent positioning of Catalonia as regards attracting professional events within the world of sports. Catalonia has a wide and varied selection of sports options which are MICE orientated: hotels with top-level sports facilities, international competitions with the best hospitality services, meeting spaces in sports facilities and a portfolio of unique products and services for professional events related to the sports industry or for incentives and meetings that wish to include sports in their programme.
