Ripoll – Olot

It takes more than two hours to travel from Ripoll to Olot by bicycle and the route is not overly difficult. From Ripoll railway station, the path follows the Sant Joan road before taking the El Ferro route. Follow the signs to reach Josep Clarà square, the gateway to the centre of Olot.

Leave Ripoll railway station. Take Carrer del Progrès on your left that heads towards Sant Joan de les Abadesses. At the end of this street, carry straight on until you come to Carretera de Sant Joan.

1.00 Km (690 m) The Ruta del ferro (Iron route) begins at the roundabout. It is signposted with a green banner on the left-hand side of the road. Continue on this route to Sant Joan de les Abadesses.

10.00 Km (800 m) You will now come to the old railway station of Sant Joan de les Abadesses. Leave the Iron Route to descend into the village. Leaving the station, walk down Carrer Oganes until your reach the road, turn left and cross the bridge. At the end of the bridge, carry straight on along Avinguda del Comte Guifré, leaving the road to your left. Carry straight on along Passeig del Comte Guifré. At the end of this walkway you will see the monastery. On reaching Plaça Torras i Bages square, turn left until you come to the carpark. Cross the carpark and, at the end of it, turn left to take Carrer Mestre Serrat until you reach the road. Turn right onto the road and walk uphill until you reach the junction that leads to the Sentigosa-Olot road on your right. Take this road and do not leave it until you reach Olot.

17.70 Km (1,050 m) Sentigosa mountain.

32.20 Km (439 m) On the final part of the Sentigosa and Vallfogona road, make sure you leave at the C-260 b junction to enter Olot directly. Following this road, you will pass under the road you were following to reach the Sant Joan de les Abadesses road next to a petrol station and along a street lined with industrial units. This street becomes Avinguda dels Reis Catòlics and then Plaça Josep Clarà, the gateway to the centre of Olot and the starting point for the following day's route.

From here, along Carrer Mulleres, you can turn left onto Carrer Hospici where you will find the tourism office, or carry straight on along Carrer del Bisbe Lorenzana until you come to the bus station (34.00 Km, 436 m).
