In the Prades mountains we can find a large collection of cave paintings, one of the most impressive prehistoric shows of culture. The high quality of preservation of these paintings and their singularity led Unesco to declare them World Heritage in 1998.
The whole set of paintings is in La Conca de Barberà, which covers an area of almost 650 square metres. The Prades mountains, at an altitude of 1,201 metres above sea level, make up an interesting natural area formed by an extensive labyrinth of mountain ranges and ravines in which fifteen cave systems with paintings have been found. Two of a Levantine style and the rest in a schematic style. In most cases, it is possible to visit the rock shelter in which the paintings are found, as they are outdoors. Some of the most noteworthy are those of the Mas d'en Llort rock shelter, the Mas d'en Ramon d'en Bessó rock shelter or the Serra de Mussara rock shelter.
Moreover, there are walking routes through these areas and, in Montblanc, it is possible to visit the cave art interpretation centre Centre d'Interpretación d'Art Rupestre-Muntanyes de Prades, managed by the Museu Comarcal de la Conca de Barberà and opened in 2005.
