Museu de la Mina Vella

Museum
The former Ca l'Eudald hydraulic mill has acted as the headquarters for the Museu de la Mina Vella since 2000 and enables discovering the past and present of water distribution in Vilassar de Mar. It has a specialised library on subjects related to water.

Ca l’Eudald is a watermill built in 1806 that was restored in 2000 to set up the Museu de la Mina Vella de Vilassar de Mar. This cultural facility aims to preserve and promote the historical heritage of the Societat Aigües de Vilassar, by exhibiting the facilities, tools and objects involved in capturing and distributing water to the population.

The company that built this water mill was founded in 1847 and has survived to this day by compiling, preserving and publicising the material that makes up this local heritage.

A visit to the museum begins in the town’s weather station , located in the outside patio. Afterward, the Ca l’Eudald well, with the largest diameter of the eight town wells still in operation today, is worth a visit. Next to it is a small solar panel plant for power generation.

Continuing outside, the visit leads through the caseta del trastejador (roofer’s hut), where the process of the entry and mixing of water from the wells and mines used to supply the population is shown.

The collection displayed in the museum is distributed over five halls. The ground floor shows the history of the water company and the distribution process that fed water to the entire town.

The next part of the tour takes visitors to the b>old underground installations. The first of these shows how the supply wells and mines that are today still in operation were built.

The old mill, known as Molí de les Alzinetes, is in the second and third underground areas. There is a model of it and of the old drainage mine, dry today, which is some 300 meters long.

The museum has a library with material on water research and meteorology. It also includes the Mina Vella historical archive , with documents from the private company as of the first half of the 19th century, and a function room.
