With three generations of work to back it up, Molí Jordi Castell Pla has been making oil since the start of the twentieth century. Throughout these years, the facilities have been modernized to adapt them to the needs of the current olive oil market.
Before the town even had electricity, Jordi Castell Pla’s grandfather was milling oil with an earthenware press powered by a mule. As time passed, the family were able to take advantage of new technologies. Today, they have a modern factory opened in 2009 where the olives are no longer milled but processed in a centrifuge. Once the oil has been extracted, it only comes into contact with stainless steel vats. The whole process is carried out at temperatures below 30°C in order to ensure that the oil does not lose any of its highly-prized qualities.
