Just as with the neighbouring beaches, that of Mar Bella underwent a complete overhaul with the recovery of the city's sea front as a result of the Olympic Games in 1992. It is located between the beaches of Nova Mar Bella and Bogatell on the coast of the Barcelona district of Poblenou. It is half a kilometre long, the sand has medium-sized grains and a slight slope to access the sea. It is flanked by a landscaped promenade which also has a bicycle lane.
It boasts all the services of normal beaches and, moreover, has a water sports centre for hiring equipment for all kinds of water sports, a children's play area, a volleyball court, a basketball court, ramps for skateboarding and table tennis. During the summer months there is a beach library service.
La Mar Bella is the favourite beach of windsurfing enthusiasts. Although not strictly nudist, there are many people who practise nudism. The access is prepared for those with reduced mobility. On the breakwaters which border the beach on both sides it is usual to see anglers.
