Inspiring settings. From the Roman to the Industrial

Art and culture route, Gastronomic route
From the Museu Episcopal in Vic, to the castle of Montesquiu, passing through the Museu del Ter, in Manlleu, or the medieval town of Besalú. On this getaway, where history and art become one, we journey through incredible cities and small villages surrounded by mountains. Are we off?

Day 1

Romanesque paradise
In the paintings upon the apses of Sant Martí del Brull and Sant Sadurní d'Osormort, and the canopy of Vall de Ribes, you'll find some of the masterpieces of Romanesque Catalonia. If you'd like see them, visit the Vic Museu Episcopal, where you can take part in guided tours and family activities. Buy some incredible local produce in Vic: artisan cold cuts, sponge cake, truffles and many others.

By the banks of the Ter
Canals, locks, factories and poplar-lined paths. As the river Ter weaves its way up to the north of Osona, this is just some of the landscape before us. Places like the Museu del Ter, in Manlleu, are essential in understanding the history and industrialisation of the region.

Day 2

Travel back to medieval times
If you feel like passing through one of the region's best preserved medieval villages, don't miss Besalú. As well as taking in the fortified bridge or the Monastery of Sant Pere, you can see the intriguing microminiatures museum and take part in the entertaining guided tour offered by Ars Didàctica.

A village on high
The panoramic view of the houses in Castellfollit de la Roca, perched upon basalt rock, will undoubtedly leave its mark. Join Basàltic to journey through the narrow and shaded streets of the historical centre. Unique.

Day 3

Discover forging
As well as the Monastery of Santa Maria de Ripoll, don't miss out on a trip to la Farga Catalana, a forging workshop which, after three centuries in operation, closed its doors in 1978. You can then visit an open air museum full of authentic forged sculptures... because the town is full of them!

Bread, biscuits and cold cuts
Buy some famous Birba biscuits in Camprodon and visit the Forn Franquesa bakery, in Perafita, where you can taste the traditional Catalan sweet and savoury cocas. And don't forget to head to the Mas Collfred de Vidrà, where you'll find out how they make the local artisan cold cuts.

A fairytale castle
To round it off, visit the castle of Montesquiu where you'll uncover the history of the Besora family, its residents from the 14th century. Take advantage of one of the dramatised tours, or take an excursion through the pine and oak forests of the surrounding park.
