Day 1
Artisan cheeses
Cheese is one of Lleida's flagship products. Try it out at the Formatges de Ponent headquarters in Almacelles, where they create a wide range of artisan goat's cheeses that are all kept additive-free in order to maintain the natural qualities of the milk.
Become a 'ratafia' expert
Want to learn how to make the famous Catalan liqueur? In La Pobla de Segur, Licors Portet organises artisan ratafia-making workshops, as well as a guided tour of the age-old factory of Cal Col·lector - functional since 1884 - to see the distillation, ageing and bottling workshops.
Day 2
DO Costers del Segre
The outstanding quality of the wines in the Lleida districts, which were the first areas of Catalonia to introduce varieties such as cabernet sauvignon, merlot and chardonnay together with the local varieties, has led to the creation of DO Costers del Segre. Head to the Celler Vall de Baldomar wine cellar to understand just why it is regarded with such prestige.
The nougat sanctuary
According to letters from the town's nobles, Agramunt's nougat tradition is seemingly documented for the first time in 1741. Discover all the secrets in making artisan nougat at the Museu del Torró i la Xocolata, which plays host to a reconstruction of the nougat workshop used by the Vicens family in 1933.
Day 3
The home of arbequina
As it spread through Spain emanating from the town of Arbeca, such is the name of the well known 'Arbequina' olive. The extra virgin olive oil - with PDO 'Protected Designation of Origin' Les Garrigues - is the perfect complement to the Mediterranean diet. Visit the modernist cooperative and its shop to try out some of the revered oil. Delicious.
The oil park
The largest press in the world with oil bottles from 45 countries and over 50 ancient olive trees. These are just some of the treasures on offer at the Parc Temàtic de l'Oli in les Borges Blanques. Housed in an ancient medieval convent, you'll see everything from how the Greeks made the oil to a functional mill from the 20th century. In the same town they also hold the Fira de l'Oli de qualitat verge extra de les Garrigues (Fair of extra virgin olive oil quality), the perfect place to gain in-depth knowledge of the region's extra virgin olive oil.
