From Paüls to Arnes

This stage begins at Paüls cemetery, through the ruins of the Las Creuetes del Lloà country house and the El Boter strait until you reach Arnes.

0 Km (314 m) Go to the top part of the village and carry on until you reach the cemetery, which you will pass on your left before taking a forest trail just behind it that heads NW. Follow the GR 171 footpath to a junction (Km 0.83, 352 m, 0 h 13 min) where you leave it on your right to take the path to the left uphill.

2.63 Km (456 m) 0 h 43 min. You will reach the uppermost part of some fields of fruit trees, where the path peters out. Carry on along a little path that climbs a steep slope up the torrent heading NW until you reach the La Gilaberta mountain.

5.04 Km (939 m) 1 h 21 min. La Gilaberta mountain. Take the path that heads W down to the ruins of the Las Creuetes del Lloà country house, where you carry on towards the country houses of Fandos and El Capellà, which are also in ruins.

7.97 Km (606 m) 2 h 05 min. El Capellà country house. The route enters the narrow El Boter pass. Where there is a lot of water in the Canaleta river, take the signposted path that takes a detour of the narrow passes and that runs from the El Capellà country house to the W to the left of the river.

9.12 Km (531 m) 2 h 20 min. Leave the path in front of El Roc de la Barca on a flat piece of land that descends to the left (S) down to the bottom of the gorge, from where you must climb the La Barca pass, with the help of chains.

9.93 Km (514 m) 2 h 32 min. After passing a small mountain and the remains of a country house, cross the Piqué gully, which normally contains water, under the imposing Roques de Benet. Continue SE, climbing to the peak of the La Terra mountain (Km 10.81, 654 m, 2 h 55 min) where you take a trail that descends on the other side until you reach the tarmacked trail that runs from Horta de Sant Joan to Franqueta.

12.02 Km (549 m) 3 h 11 min. On reaching this point, take the trail on the left (SE), crossing the gully over a small bridge. Climb the Blanco mountain (Km 13.07, 613 m, 3 h 28 min) and shortly afterwards (Km 13.86, 577 m, 3 h 39 min), on your descent, turn right (NW) onto a dirt track that leads to the Arnes passes, which are reached at Km 14.56 (515 m, 3 h 48 min).

17.17 Km (476 m) 4 h 24 min. On leaving the passes and before climbing a cobbled section leading to a trail, follow the river along the PR C-185 footpath. Cross it, leaving the PR footpath behind you, and take a trail that leads to another tarmacked trail.

17.75 Km (492 m) 4 h 36 min. After a little more than 100 m, leave the tarmacked trail to take a path on your left that heads W past the Nou country house (Km 18.29, 523 m, 4 h 45 in) to reach Arnes (Km 20.20, 501 m, 5 h 13 min). End of the stage.
