Viladellops is a small village established in the year 930. The medieval tower still survives from the time when it served as a fortification and a communication tower with Olèrdola Castle. Currently, the town is made up of eighteen farmhouses, all perfectly preserved, that contribute to maintaining the atmosphere of a hundred years ago.
At the end of the 20th century, in 1877, written records already existed which mentioned the production of wine on Viladellops Estate for commercial purposes. This activity continued uninterrupted until 1980, when it was abandoned. It was taken up again in 1999 by the current generation of the Desvalls family.
The new project came into being with the idea of producing not only quality wine but wine that is Mediterranean through and through. Finca Viladellops chose the area’s indigenous varieties as the basis for their DO Penedès wines: b>Garnacha for red wines and Xarel·lo for white wines.
The wine is made with the fruit of 60 hectares of vineyards the firm's own vineyards in the Garraf massif, on a 500-hectare estate where Mediterranean forests stand alongside cereal fields.
From a wine tourism standpoint, Finca Viladellops offers multiple options, including a tour of the estate, the vineyards and the cellar, as well as a guided tasting of four of the firm’s wines. Moreover, the winery is always willing to organise custom-made activities by prior appointment.
