The fight for the Iron Throne gripped millions of people around the world. The cathedral of Girona and its surroundings hosted the production set of the legendary series Game of Thrones. But not only has Girona been an important setting for the series: the medieval castle of Santa Florentina de Canet de Mar, an 11th century fort built to defend against pirates, became for a few days the home of the Tarly family. Game of Thrones has not been the only story of power struggles, alliances and betrayals shot in Catalonia. The Castle of Cardona is a must-see location that has served as a set for some of the most important works of the seventh art. Orson Welles, for example, filmed Midnight Bells there, which he considered to be one of his best works. Welles also shot fragments of his other films on the Costa Brava and in Barcelona. The Catalan capital is also a true cinematic setting. In the 1970s, the Italian director Michelangelo Antonioni shot The passenger, one of his masterpieces starring Jack Nicholson and Maria Schneider. Directors of the caliber of Woody Allen or Tom Tykwer have filmed in the Catalan capital, with their adaptation to the big screen of the famous novel Perfume by Patrick Süskind. More recently, it has served as the set for such renowned and award-winning series as The Crown or the film Uncharted, based on the famous video game saga and starring Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg. In this sense, through the films and series that have impacted you the most, you will get to know emblematic places in Catalonia, from the Barri Gòtic of Barcelona, through the Call Jueu of Girona or also the walls of Tossa de Mar, a town Ava Gardner fell in love with during the filming of The Wandering Dutchman. A different way to get to know Catalonia that will make you feel like a real celluloid star. Ready? Three, two, one... Action!
