The Empordà DO wine route, where you can indulge in the vine-covered landscape half way between the sea and the mountains, ranging from sea level to an altitude of 260 metres, near the Cap de Creus Natural Park. The vines are hardy, capable of withstanding the force of the "tramuntana", the gales that pummel the Empordà.
You can taste delicious, full-bodied reds; unique, fresh whites like the Empordà "garnatxa", a natural sweet wine made from a grape variety that gives it its name; and rosés whose alcohol content is moderate. There’s something for everyone and you can accompany them with the local gastronomy that any of the quality restaurants of the Empordà lay on.
Are you looking for a different experience? The Empordà DO offers a whole range of opportunities to venture into the world of Empordà wines. If what you fancy is a special excursion, you can book a guided tour through the Alt Empordà natural parks on an electric bicycle. Some of the region’s wineries offer these routes using these rural electric bikes that are provided with panniers like the ones typically used by the Catalan donkey.
Al fresco dinners, concerts amidst the vines, grape harvesting with the family, dramatized visits (livened up by two actors who interact and explain the wine making process) and night visits (with a typical snack of "pa amb tomàquet" – tomato-rubbed bread) are some of the experiences you can try in the Empordà.
