Day 1
Tarragona-Sant Salvador
We begin the route in Tarragona, visiting the Roman city -the amphitheatre, the circus and the forum- a UNESCO World Heritage Site, or the cathedral. You can even do it with one of the dramatised tours offered by Tarraco Guide Bureau. Something slightly less common, but highly recommendable, is a caving route in an urban cave, organised by the Societat d'Investigacions Espeleològiques. If you don't want to leave the city, go to the port and get on a yacht to watch the sun setting from the sea with Cosas de Barcos. Or if you prefer, we'll continue down the coast until Sant Salvador, where we'll find the life and work of Pau Casals, the great musician and humanist, in the museum named after him.
Day 2
Calafell-Valls
On the beaches of Calafell, we start the day with some water sports (sailing, kayaking, paddle surfing) provided by the Patronat Municipal de Turisme. If you're with children, fun is guaranteed at the Aqualeon water park in Albinyana. Back en route, we head to the Monestir de Santes Creus, a jewel in the crown of medieval Catalan art and the only monastery of the Cistercian Route without active monastic life. We'll finish the day's journey in Valls, where we'll follow a guided route through the city organised by the City Council.
Day 3
Montblanc-el Vilosell
Visiting the medieval city of Montblac, in the company of one of the tour guides offered by the City Council, is the best possible way to start your day. Next we head for the Monastery of Santa Maria de Vallbona, where you can take a guided visit and even spend the night in the quarters. Still in Vallbona, there are two activities on offer. In L'Olivera, learn about the production process and try out the traditional regional oil. You can also visit the stained-glass window factory of Ahumada/Balcells Vitrallers. To wrap things up, we're off to El Vilosell, where we'll wander through the vineyards, visit the wine cellar and sample the wines of Tomás Cusiné .
Day 4
L'Espluga de Francolí-Porrera
In L'Espluga de Francolí we'll take a trip through prehistoric times and see how our ancestors lived in the Cova Museu de la Font Major. The most adventurous of our travellers can head into the cave and tackle the underground river. If you'd prefer to relax, you can do just that in the Poblet Monastery, another Cistercian gem. In Capafonts, with El Brogit, you can play shepherd and sample some artisan cheeses. In Siurana, you can take the Tourism Office's guided tour of the impressive historical collection, and follow that up with a bit of kayaking in the reservoir with Explora Tgn. Next up, in Gratallops, you can take an electric bicycle route with Ebike Tours and visit the Ripoll Sans wine cellar. If you've still got anything left, there's the Vies Altes sports park in Porrera, where you'll find an air tour, sports area and archery... just so you don't get bored!
Day 5
Falset-Mont-roig del Camp
In Falset, capital of the Priorat wine-making region, we'll take a guided tour through Castell del Vi, a wine museum built in the ancient castle of the counts of Prades. Bellmunt del Priorat offers the Museu de les Mines, including a 'Mina Eugenia' (Artisan Mining) plant, where they used to produce lead many years ago. Then it's on to the Dels Guiamets reservoir, where we can chill out on one of the kayaks, pedalos or fishing boats provided by Centre Natura Servikayak. Finally, round it all off with a bit of golf at Club Bonmont, Mont-roig del Camp.
Day 6
Cambrils-Salou
In Cambrils, you can choose from the huge range of water sports available at the Estació Nàutica, or even join a ship's crew and enjoy a full day of fishing organised by the Ajuntament de Cambrils. Other options: Mont-roig-Miami Turisme's mountain biking route from Mont-roig del Camp to Miami-Platja, or a relaxation and wellness session at Termes Montbrió, in Montbrió del Camp. Then we arrive in Reus, where we'll take a look around the Gaudí Centre and try out the modernism route. Afterwards, you'll have the chance to go for a round at the Lumine & Golf Beach Club in La Pineda. If you're travelling with children, the Port Aventura theme park is close by in Salou, it's definitely somewhere the little ones might enjoy spending the day.
