Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya

Motor circuit
The circuit is one of Spain’s most modern sports facilities, hosting major international motorsports events every season, including the Spanish F1 Grand Prix and Catalan MotoGP Grand Prix.

The Circuit de Catalunya race track came into being thanks to the creation in 1989 of a consortium involving the Government of Catalonia, the Reial Automòbil Club de Catalunya (Royal Automobile Club of Catalonia, RACC) and the Town Hall of Montmeló. Two years later, the vast circuit was opened. The first official race to be held there was the Spanish Touring Car Championship.

In 1991, the circuit hosted the 35 Spanish Formula 1 Grand Prix. With this event, the Circuit de Catalunya became the official circuit hosting this championship. In 1992, it also became an official venue of the MotoGP World Championship when it hosted the European Grand Prix. The event offered the opportunity to change the name of the championship to the Gran Premi de Catalunya de MotoGP (MotoGP Catalonian Grand Prix).

Located in the municipality of Montmeló, some 30 km from Barcelona, it is internationally renowned as one of the best sports venues for high-level motorcycle racing. The circuit has seventeen stands, three of which are covered, and five competition and training tracks distributed over 79.5 ha. The straight stretch in front of the stand, more than one km long, is particularly noteworthy. The remainder of the circuit combines thirteen quick curves and counter-curves.

The facilities are available for hire year-round for the full range of motor activities. The circuit is also able to host all kinds of corporate or private events and activities thanks to its multipurpose infrastructure, which includes a restaurant, press room with capacity for 450 people, several VIP areas and a heliport.
