Catalonia has always been a land of genius, with Dalí and Gaudí as its symbols. With the backdrop of Costa Brava, a place that puts sea and mountain together in a unique way, we will discover Dalí's talent, the landscapes that inspired him and the wine and gastronomy from his land; we will visit Girona with its medieval streets and the charm of a small town, and, if all of it seem too short to you, you can end up in Barcelona, getting to know better its great architects such as Gaudí.
Itinerary:
1st day. Arrival Transfer from Girona or Barcelona airport to Figueres, Dalí's cradle. You will be collected by your driver/guide who, during a week, will take you to visit the most important places in Catalonia, its monuments, its landscapes and its wines. Gourmet dinner in Figueres.
2nd day. Figueres and Dalí Museum
Figueres is Dalí's hometown and where the well-known Dalí' Museum-Theatre is placed. In the morning you will have time to visit the Dalí Museum-Theatre on your own. The museum has to be understood as a whole, as Salvador Dalí's masterpiece, since it was conceived and designed by the artist to offer the visitant a real experience, immersing themselves in his unique and captivating world. After the visit to the museum, you will have time to enjoy Figueres. We recommend you to go to see the house where Dalí was born, at Calle Monturiol.
After lunch your guide will pick you up to go to Cadaqués, but without rushing and enjoying Empordà, its villages and, specially, its landscape. We will pass through Aiguamolls del Empordà Natural Park and we will cross part of Cap de Creus, a clear example of the Empordà wine-making landscape, with more than 30.000 kilometres of "feixes", stone walls that the old farmers built up to gain growing ground in that rough countryside. Before going down to Cadaqués, we will stop in an OD Empordà winery where the family have got back the vineyards and have given back its old appearance to Cap de Creus. Arrival at Cadaqués and accommodation.
3rd day. Cadaqués and Port-Lligat
Free day to visit this picturesque village in the heart of Costa Brava that became famous because of the 20th Century artists that, running away from the noise, appreciated the tranquillity and the exceptional landsacape of the peninsula of Cap de Creus. Placed in Alt Empordà, Cadaqués is characteristic because of its small rock coves (that is where its name comes from, Cap de Quers: rocks cape) and of its natural port, coveted for centuries by Greeks and Romans, Arabians and pirates. The link between Cadaqués and art comes through Salvador Dalí who, even being from Figueres, was bound to the neighbour Portlligat Bay where, during the 40's, built his curious residence. Visit to Portlligat museum.
Optional: Trip in a sailing boat to see Cap de Creus from the sea. Price: 18 EUR per person.
4th day. From Cadaqués to Girona
Cadaqués - Port de la Selva - Pau - Púbol - Girona: After a fantastic day in Cadaqués, you driver/guide will pick you up to continue to show you the incredible places in Costa Brava. Today, we will cross Cap de Creus to arrive at Port de la Selva, with views to our French neighbours. We will continue our trip getting into the area with more vineyards in Empordà and we will stop to visit Peralada Castle, famous for its summer concerts and its hundreds-years-old winery. After lunch we will continue our trip towards Baix Empordà, passing by small villages and very different growing lands, to arrive at Púbol and to visit the Gala-Dalí castle that, open to visitors since 1996, allows the visitors to discover a medieval building where Salvador Dalí brought into reality a huge creative effort with just one person in his mind: Gala. Once we visit the castle we will continue to Girona. Accommodation in Girona.
5th day. From Girona to Barcelona
Girona is a small city, perfect for a walk in its wonderful streets, for contemplating the beautiful architecture, penetrating in the biggest cathedral of Europe or, simply, going shopping. Guided visit in the town and free time to enjoy it. We recommend you to visit the Art Museum of Girona. After lunch transfer to Barcelona and accommodation in Barcelona.
6th day. Barcelona and Gaudí...
Today, you are going to enjoy a morning Gaudi's tour in Barcelona, to find out all the secrets of the most famous modernist architect in the world.
