Casa-Museu Pau Casals

Museum
Museum dedicated to Pau Casals. It is located in the house the construction of which was commissioned by the famous musician and composer in 1909, overlooking the sea on Sant Salvador beach. It is possible to take a journey through his professional and private life.

Pau Casals chose the beach of Sant Salvador as the location of his ocean-front home, Villa Casals, built in 1909. At the beginning of the 1930s, just before the Civil War broke out, he also commissioned the architect Antoní Puig, who designed the Music Hall, to refurbish the villa, the lovely garden and the lookout over the beach. In the years preceding his exile in 1939, the musician would retreat to his villa every summer to rest from the tours that took him all over the world and to relax in the company of family and friends. Villa Casals, having been restored to the beauty of its heyday, is now the seat of the Pau Casals House-Museum, where visitors can discover the busy life of the famous cellist through his extensive artistic and documentary legacy. A visit to the Pau Casals House-Museum is a walkthrough of 17 rooms that depict this musical genius’s biography, with realia from his private life and his professional career, and using the latest advances in museographic technology.
