Blanes

Guide to the Municipalities

Blanes is currently one of the main tourist destinations of the Costa Brava, though for years it was a small and calm fishing village.

Its four kilometres of beaches, strong business activity and wide-ranging accommodation and restaurants make it one of the most important towns in the district.

This town has been awarded the specialised DTF (Destino de Turismo Familiar/Family Tourism Destination) seal, given by the Catalan Tourism Board. During the holidays, family-friendly accommodation and hospitality is available alongside appropriate entertainment and leisure.

The essentials

- Enjoy the beaches and coves of the four kilometres of the Blanes coast.
- Walk through the of Botanical Garden Marimurtra and the tropical Pinya de Rosa.
- Visit the castle-palace of the viscounts of Cabrera.

Economic activity

Blanes’ economy is sustained mostly by tourism. For this reason, the services sector has experienced strong development. Agriculture, primarily irrigated farming, is still practised in the flattest area of the municipal district, although its contribution to the local economy has dropped. The main crops are vegetables, fodders, potatoes and fruit trees. Fishing, mostly trawling, is still practised at the Blanes Port. A fish subhasta (auction) is held everyday and is very popular with professionals and tourists alike.
