Wineries and wines, Penedès
The Roman tradition of winemaking is evident on Les Deveses Estate, located at the foot of the Via Augusta on its way through El Vendrell. Here is where Joan Roca and Agustí Puig, a farmer and an oenologist, respectively, decided to plant ten hectares of vineyards (Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot) in 1982.

After several test microvinifications, they embarked, in 1989, on the adventure of building a cellar and starting a career as winemakers.

Today, Avgvstvs has the image of a small Roman town, with the symbolism of the Empire present everywhere. The spectacular entrance to the estate, between pine trees and vineyards, leads to a gravel esplanade with four large buildings that make up the various spaces of the cellar, all surrounded by vineyards within the limits of the estate.

After Agustí Puig left, the company remained in hands of Joan Roca and his son Albert. The winery is small but its size doesn't prevent its Avgvstvs wines and Forvm vinegar from reaching every corner of the world. To round out their own harvest, Joan and Albert have agreements with local farmers, which entails around twenty additional hectares of the same varieties. In total, Avgvstvs sells about 150,000 bottles a year. Still, the winery is better known for its bittersweet Forvm vinegars, used by the best chefs in the world.

Guests are led on a guided informative tour of the cellar and are treated to sampling of wines and gourmet vinegars. In addition, for groups and by appointment, a food and wine pairing can be arranged with a catering firm in the Entrevinyes guest room, among other activities.
