Economic activity

Amposta’s economy is primarily based on agriculture. Most of the land is irrigated; water from the Ebro River is received through various canals and irrigation channels. The most significant crops are rice, olive trees, carob trees and vegetables. The raising of farm animals, especially poultry, and river fishing are also major contributors to the economy. Industry is primarily derived from the agricultural activities. Within the services sector, tourism is one of Amposta’s most important activities.
