This area is formed by the confluence of the Noguera Pallaresa and Segre rivers, and is sandwiched between the cliffs of the Mont-roig and Carbonera mountain ranges and the Camarasa, Sant Llorenç de Montgai and Partidor de Balaguer reservoirs, all three of which are used to generate hydroelectric power. It is an excellent example of an epigenist gorge in the central Pyrenean foothills.
It is a blend of a Mediterranean nature mixed with a certain dose of continental elements and boasts many interesting features.
Here, we can find some very interesting landscapes, due to the presence of impressive limestone cliffs near to the river and reservoirs, such as that of Sant Llorenç de Montgai. Numerous recreational activities can be carried out in the area, including sailing in Camarasa, bathing or birdwatching. There are campsites and leisure areas. It is also possible to go climbing, caving and angling.
