A journey through time. From the Romanesque to Modernism

Archaeological sites, great painters, Renaissance and Modernism houses, as well as Industrial Revolution museums. The west of Barcelona is home to some of the region's finest historical and artistic memories.

Day 1

The inspirational Sitges
The place that Luminism described as full of artistic feeling; the place that Santiago Rusiñol called home. Visit the museums - the Cau Ferrat, the Romantic and the Maricel - and follow the AGIS route through the painters' workshops, painters who still to this day draw inspiration from Sitges.

Museums for everyone
In Vilanova i la Geltrú, don't miss the Centre d'Interpretació del Romanticisme Manuel de Cabanyes, the Biblioteca Museu Víctor Balaguer or el Museu Can Papiol. In Cubelles, the exhibition on the circus clown Charlie Rivel. And in Sant Salvador, la Vil·la Casals, dedicated to one of the 20th century's most important musicians: Pau Casals.

A stroll through Olèrdola
Iberian and Roman archaeological remains, an ancient medieval city and an incredible natural environment. Join Tríade to uncover a vast history at the archaeological site and the Centre d'Interpretació d'Olèrdola, feel free to have a look around yourself or choose from the guided and dramatised tours.

Day 2

Neanderthal footprints
Journey through the Barranc del Capelló and discover the archaeological sites at the NEAN-Parc Prehistòric de Capellades. If you're with children, they can be prehistoric hunters for the day and take an archery workshop.

The Montserrat Universe
You'll be amazed by what's on offer. Visiting the monastery is a must, but neither should you miss the museum with its fine collection of Catalan paintings from the 19th and 20th centuries. And in Collbató, we also highly recommend the Tourism Office's visit to the Blancafort organ workshop.

Day 3

Romanesque in Sant Cugat
The Monestir de Sant Cugat del Vallès is one of the jewels in the crown of Romanesque Catalonia. Take part in the activities on offer and learn about subjects such as the life of a monk.

Terrassa, technology and industry
The Museu Tèxtil and the Museu de la Ciència i de la Tècnica de Catalunya will bring us closer to Industrialisation. The Masia Freixa and the Parc Audiovisual de Catalunya - a cinematic benchmark - are also well worth a visit.

Gavà underground
Finish off the day at the Parc Arqueològic Mines de Gavà and visit the La Rambla bomb shelter. Have you got the nerve?
