Patronat Municipal de Turisme de Tarragona (Tarragona Municipal Board of Tourism) is in charge of promoting this city's centuries-old wealth. One of the city's greatest attractions is, without a doubt, its gastronomy.
Tarragona's seafood and blue fish, combined with the fruits of the earth (olive oil, dried fruits and wine, mostly), are part of a local cuisine in which "romesco" peppers play a distinctive role.
The most typical dish is "romesco", a fish casserole that can be enjoyed in many beachfront restaurants. Some restaurants offer specialties inspired by Roman cuisine, especially during "Tarraco a Taula" (Tarraco on the Table). Calçots (green onions served with a typical sauce) are a staple in many restaurants, mostly during the winter. The traditional dish for the Santa Tecla festivities is "espineta con caracolillos", a fish dish with snails.
