The Culinary Institute of Catalonia Foundation (FICC in Catalan) is a non-profit private foundation that gathers professional restaurateurs, producers and distributors.
Founded in 1994, its objective has always been to ensure the recognition of Catalan cuisine, both at a social and institutional level, and grant Catalan cuisine an international dimension.
Among the activities this foundation promotes are investigation, dissemination ( in schools as well) support to associates, and all kinds of actions that foster cultural exchange and the protection of Catalan cuisine.
This was how study, reflection and promotion of Catalan cuisine on a larger scale led to the creation of the project Marca Cuina Catalana (Catalan Cuisine Brand) in 2001, launched by the Culinary Institute of Catalonia and the Viure el Mediterrani Foundation.
This project's objectives are: to guarantee the continuity of Catalan cuisine, to promote Catalan food products and restaurants through a quality seal, to create a network of restaurateurs, pastry chefs, gourmet establishments, producers in the sphere of gastronomy and farmers that defend and offer Catalan gastronomic products, and to ensure the preservation of food biodiversity and the promotion and protection of the rural sphere.
